Relationships are not real when people lie. If he had been honest about the HIV and about losing his job then none of this would have happened. Along with the medication he should have received therapy because he seemed unable to handle the realities of his life. He probably needed support in order to be honest in relationships.

She did suffer real emotional distress but so many people cause emotional distress and in relationships and don’t go to jail so its not really clear to me if 12 years in jail is appropriate.
