There are a lot of people who make a lot of money from porn so there are vested interests who want to prove that porn isn’t addictive which is why there is controversy.

At one time it was okay to advertise cigarettes. The DSM will eventually catch up

Dr. Richard Krueger, DSM-5 work-group member (Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders) and associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, has said that he “has little doubt porn addiction is real and will eventually garner enough attention to be recognized as a mental illness” by the DSM,[17][18] though he also suggested that “most people would do it and it won’t become a problem.

Its a lot like fast food and other addictive substances that sell really well. Most people are occasional users and some are seriously harmed
